We must let go of the life we have planned, so as to accept the one that is waiting for us.
– Joseph Campbell

Jason Marx, LCSW
Licensed Clinical Social Worker
As a psychoanalytically-oriented clinician who works from a depth perspective, my foremost aim is to develop an open, compassionate, and trusting relationship with you so that you feel free to share with me those issues that most burden you – those issues for which you need careful, caring and respectful attention. I have worked mostly with adults in individual, couples, and group psychotherapy who have struggled with anxiety, depression, panic, trauma (including childhood abuse and neglect), PTSD, and substance use issues. I’ve worked with and I am sensitive to the needs of people of diverse identities, and have also worked with artists struggling with creative issues, Veterans, and those living with severe chronic mental health needs. In our work together, by following your lead, we will work to increase our understanding of what most troubles you.
We will approach core, possibly unconscious, roots of many issues that you carry and which contribute to distressing psychological symptoms, including self-defeating behaviors and relationship patterns or your reliance on maladaptive coping that is no longer useful to you but may have been key to your survival at earlier times in your life.
My aim is to help you free yourself from old behaviors, assumptions, and beliefs while renegotiating your relationship with yourself, with others, and with life itself. The goal is to enrich your capacity to be more present and effective, and to gain more satisfaction, fulfillment, support, and joy in love, work, and community.
Our work may include exploring past traumas, inhibitions, or ‘psychological ghosts’ that haunt your life and divert you from the course that might be more fulfilling to you, allowing you to reclaim your sense of wholeness. My work with you will be unique to you, and actually unique to us, but grounded in my training and continuing growth in the ever-evolving fields of mental health and psychoanalysis.
I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, a Psychology Doctoral Candidate, a member of the IAPSP, and a member at the Eastern Group Psychotherapy Society. I look forward to discovering our process together.

Your therapeutic space will be a place where change, growth, and recovery occurs. I create a non-judgmental space where you can be your authentic self and express your thoughts and feelings without any filters. Whether you know exactly what you want to work on, or know you need change to happen but don’t know where to start, I can help.
There are numerous avenues to work through life’s hurdles and my job is to help you figure out what path is best for you. It is never too late to make a change and my goal is to help you live a happier, healthier, and more fulfilling life.
I believe it is important to meet people where they are at and I believe in each person’s ability to make the change they want to see. My approach to therapy is integrative, tailoring our sessions to your unique individual needs alongside where you are at in your journey. We will work collaboratively to develop the skills needed to help you navigate your current issues while also delving into your past to discover the root causes of your issues.
I am equipped to work with people from different cultural backgrounds with a wide range of issues including depression, anxiety, and stress; however, my areas of specialization include addressing depression, anxiety, panic, trauma, addiction/maladaptive coping mechanisms, interpersonal trauma, working with emerging adults struggling with life transitions, and working with individuals from communities/environments to which mental health is stigmatized and not acknowledged.
I received my Master’s degree in Mental Health Counseling from Brooklyn College and I completed my clinical internship from the Addiction Institute at Mount Sinai West. I ‘ve also spent years working in community mental health with a wide range of clients and issues, ranging from severe mental health needs, active addiction, active PTSD, to depression and acute anxiety.

Licensed Master Social Worker
I firmly believe that the foundation of effective therapy is the relationship between the therapist and the client. This connection is essential for addressing life’s challenges and fostering personal growth. In a supportive and compassionate environment, you will be invited to reflect on your thoughts, feelings, and experiences. My commitment is to meet you where you are in your life journey, ensuring our sessions are tailored to your specific needs and goals. Life is indeed a journey, and I am excited to leverage my experiences to support diverse needs and aspirations from all ethnic and cultural backgrounds.
I am eager to explore how various life factors have contributed to the person you are today. My aim is to help you identify these elements, allowing for a deeper understanding of yourself. To do so, I employ a systems approach in my work, examining how attachment influences our current selves. By gaining insight into these dynamics, you can acquire valuable knowledge and tools to successfully navigate the future.
Together, we will uncover the underlying patterns that shape your behaviors and relationships with others. By examining how your personal experiences relate to the broader context of your life, we can reveal insights that promote healing.
Engaging in this therapeutic journey brings numerous benefits, including improved emotional well-being, enhanced coping strategies, and increased self-awareness. As you embark on this path, you may find newfound clarity and resilience in facing life’s challenges.
Whether you wish to address specific issues, navigate life transitions, or simply gain a deeper understanding of yourself, I am here to support you every step of the way. Let’s connect and begin this journey together.
